StayLive Competency Tool (SCT)

Competency Goes Digital!

StayLive has partnered with JNCTN to develop an industry-wide, cloud-based competency tool - known as the StayLive Competency Tool (SCT). The SCT is a portable, secure digital record of your competencies and will be accepted across all generation sites and accessible wherever you are.

From 1 July 2025, the electricity generation industry will adopt the StayLive Competency Tool (SCT) as the only way to verify your training and ID. The Green Passbook is being phased out and will not be accepted after 31 December 2025.

What is the StayLive Competency Tool?

The SCT powered by JNCTN is a new digital solution designed to enhance the management and sharing of training and competency information across New Zealand's electricity industry.

The benefits of going digital via the SCT for competencies cannot be overstated for individuals and organisations alike, not to mention the significant cost savings to the industry of over $10 million approximately per year by reducing administrative overheads and streamlining training processes. Check out this Video to hear more about the SCT and visit JNCTN to learn more about our partner who developed this tool for StayLive.

What this means for you?

We recognise that this may be a significant change for some organisations, however, the team at StayLive and JNCTN are here to support you as you onboard the SCT and get used to this digital way of working with competencies across the industry.

From 1 July 2025, all contractors and employees in the electricity generation industry will be moving to using the SCT as the new standard to verify training and identity credentials as the industry 'Green Book' will no longer be applicable.

Early Registration

If you want to get ahead of the game you can register now - this will get you in the right position for when the Generator you work with gives you the green light to use the SCT with them.

Select which one of the below is relevant to you:

  • If you are an organisation decision maker (including Sole proprietors) who has not yet registered, you will need to fill in a form in our help centre first so that your company can be set up prior to you registering, see here for the form and instructions guide.
  • If you are an organisation decision maker (including Sole proprietors) who has already registered but needs to check registration details please log into your account or contact our support hub if you can't log in at support@jnctn.nz
  • If you are an employee of a company, you are not required to sign up individually, your employer will be in touch with you on next steps (they'll either register you or ask that you do this once they have set the organisation up).

Next Steps

  • Please reach out to the StayLive Team listed below if you have any questions on the SCT and how this will work for your organisation.
  • Please reach out to the JNCTN support team if you need any technical support around registration or existing profiles at support@jnctn.nz
  • Upcoming communications with everything you need to onboard you/your people is in development and we'll be setting up some virtual and in-person sessions for extra support.
Onboarding: From 1st July, the expectation is that everyone is transitioning to the SCT. To help avoid an overload of registrations in July, we encourage you to register now so you're ready to go in July.
