StayLive Work Control Procedures - A New Pathway to Competency

We're excited to share the first step to a brand-new work control procedures (WCPs) competency journey...

Purpose

An industry wide WCP competency solution that’s a straightforward, consistent way to get up to speed and stay on track with the work control system and procedures, from Work Party Member to Permit Issuer. Think of it as an industry reset!

The Story So Far

We delivered the first eLearning module last year; it is a great intro into how we use WCPs in industry and what’s required to be a Work Party Member and General Work Supervisor. It’s also a steppingstone to becoming a StayLive WCP Recipient and / or Issuer.

The resulting certifications are:

  • StayLive Work Party Member – for staff and contractors required to work on or around a generation site within the WCPs.
  • StayLive General Work Supervisor – for staff and contractors required to supervise general work on a generation site.

Building on these two new certifications, we have just completed the third StayLive WCP certification:

  • StayLive Work Authority Recipient – for staff and contractors required to be the Recipient of a Work Authority on a generation site

StayLive WCP Certifications

Course Format - who it's for and how it works

The new StayLive Work Authority (WA) certification reflects the StayLive Work Ready (theory) / Work Capable (proven practice) phases of competency resulting in two stages of certification:

  1. StayLive WA Recipient Provisional – working under general supervision (work ready)
  2. StayLive WA Recipient Certified – fully certified (work capable)

To achieve the StayLive WA Recipient Provisional (work ready) stage, the individual will need to complete the associated eLearning course. Once complete, they will be able to carry out the WA Recipient role under general supervision of the Issuer and other experienced field staff / Recipients.

The Provisional period serves as a performance support, coached phase for applying the eLearning concepts in practice.

Provisional status is clear to the Issuer as the individual is certified StayLive WA Recipient Provisional. This remains in effect until they have been the Recipient of enough Work Authorities (minimum of 3) within a 24-month period to demonstrate to their employer their capability to fulfil the responsibilities as a Recipient.

To achieve StayLive WA Recipient Certified (work capable), an individual must:

  • First achieve Provisional status by completing the StayLive WA Recipient eLearning.
  • Complete a Self-Evaluation.
  • Apply their self-evaluation insights and receive on-the-job coaching while practicing under general supervision.
  • Record practice across at a minimum of 3 Work Authorities (WAs) within a 24-month period.
  • Submit sufficient evidence to enable their employer to complete an Employer Attestation.

In line with existing WA Recipient and Permit Recipient certifications, the certifications will need to be renewed every two years via the VoC (validation of competency) process.

The current Work Authority Certification (WAC) will be phased out by 2027 and replaced by the StayLive WA Recipient Certification.
